This series consists of mining lease application files labelled "Inspecting surveyor" with the location and type of lease application. Each file contains the Northern Territory of Australia, Mining Ordinance 1939, form 7, Reg.95; Application for Lease and Form 21 Reg.135 Application for registration of a mining tenement other than a lease; instruction to surveyor form; correspondence on refused applications; general correspondence; original application and triplicates. The inspecting surveyor has reported on gold mining, mineral, prospecting, residential, water rights, machinery, gardening, tailings and business area leases. Section 186 of the Mining Ordinance defines the power of the Mining Warden's Court to be able to order a order a survey, plan or measurement of any land or mining tenement, or any part thereof, to be made by any surveyor licensed under the laws of the Territory or by a person appointed as a mining surveyor by the Minister or the Administrator."
